The Nursing Meta paradigm Assignment
Nursing Philosophy and Meta paradigms
The nursing field is complex, and it becomes difficult for individuals to define since it is evolving, dynamic and extensive. It is far known to involve both theoretical and practical skills that enable the nurse to be identified as a professional. The Nursing Meta paradigm Assignment The nursing philosophy forms the basis of nursing practice irrespective of the changing trends in the field, and it promotes the proper application of nursing knowledge as well as the development of further nursing theory (Marchuk, 2014). As a nurse who values the profession, my philosophy seeks to encompass the art of conveying the science of nursing holistically with dignity and compassion. I have lived my nursing philosophy in both practical and theoretical fields, and I believe I was meant to be a nurse to provide care. Every nurse’s view is surrounded by the four parameters including the person, nursing, health, and environment (Whelton, 2017).
The person as a nursing meta paradigm represents an individual who is unique with their own set of values, ideologies, and beliefs. According to Jean Watson, every person has their own sets of ideas and sets of needs, and it is imperative to honor and accept the needs of the individual irrespective of the surrounding forces (Branch et al. 2016). Florence Nightingale defines a person as the receiver of care and acknowledges that each person should be treated differently. I have respected prior knowledge from the philosophers, and in my daily practice I value my patients and provide care individually.
Nursing is an art and science of care that has evolved focusing primarily on the patient. The Nursing Meta paradigm Assignment The base of nursing stands on the theoretical and practical route, and according to Watson, incorporation of the two parts encompasses nursing care (Bahramnezhad et al. 2015). I have gone through various experiences in the nursing profession, and I have concluded that medicine and science are not the dominant factors in patient care. The nurse is meant to provide care to the patient physically, mentally and spiritually. Meaningful relationships and trust are established through nursing care (Ahtisham, 2017). The personal nursing philosophy shapes individuals into providing holistic care to the patients in line with the nursing paradigm.
Health and illness form part of every human being’s continuum, and it is believed that everybody is faced with the two parameters in life. The goal of nursing care is always to restore the health status of individuals through collaborative approaches. According to Dorothea Orem, people who take care of themselves live longer and happier lives than those who neglect caring for themselves (Marchuk, 2014). My philosophy provides a guide to promoting self-care to every patient and assisting those who are in need completes my nursing care. Helping people to restore their health pushes them to maintain sight of their future health. The Nursing Meta paradigm Assignment
The environment paradigm deals with the internal and external factors that surround the patient. Florence Nightingale developed the environmental model of nursing which acknowledges that changing the environment around the person supports a healthy life (Marchuk, 2014). Some of the critical factors that I consider inpatient care include safety, security, cleanliness, noise, lighting, and space. I always integrate my philosophy to patient care by promoting dignity and compassion through maintaining the environment. A nurse should still determine the needs of the patient and provide an environment that resembles the real home.
Nursing is a discipline that employs both theory and practice into patient care. Personal philosophies guide nurses in their daily encounters and promote professionalism through the provision of a patient-centered approach. The four factors that define the nursing profession include the environment, person, health and nursing as a whole. Integrating the four parameters into nursing practice promotes holistic care of the patient.
